Rubus ursinus - Pacific Blackberry

Deciduous shrub or vine, 2 - 6 ft tall and scrambling to 6 ft wide. Very prickly. Often dioecious. Female plants produce delicious fruit if growing conditions are right; requires cool weather and ample moisture for fruit to set. Host plant for the Western Tiger Swallowtail and several other native butterflies. Part shade to full shade. Moderate water. Tolerates many soil types. Hardy to 0º F.
