Prosopsis glandulosa - Honey Mesquite

Deciduous shrub or small tree to 25 ft. Fern-like green leaves on spiny, mahogany-colored branches. Yellow flowers in spring. Bean pods in fall are a traditional food of the Cahuilla. Provides food and shelter to myriad wildlife; quintessential for a desert habitat garden. Host plant of the Long-tailed Skipper and Reakirt’s Blue butterflies. Full sun, low water. Grows vigorously with a little supplemental water. Prefers fast draining soils. Hardy to 10° F
