Oenothera elata - Hooker's Evening Primrose, Tall Evening Primrose

Evergreen perennial to 4-8 ft tall by 3-6 ft wide. Blooms in summer and fall. Bright yellow flowers held on upright stems open at night and close during the day. Attracts sphinx moths and hummingbirds. Finches enjoy the seeds in the fall. Full sun to part shade. Usually found in moist areas, but deep taproot allows the plant to tolerate some dry spell once established. Tolerates a wide variety of soils. Hardy to 30º F.
