Myrica californica (syn. Morella californica) - Pacific Wax Myrtle

Evergreen shrub to 15 - 20 ft in the wild, easily kept smaller in cultivation. Dense, waxy green leaves held on upright stems. Excellent hedge or visual screen. Great bird habitat plant; especially attractive to the Yellow-Rumped Warbler. Full sun along the coast to bright shade inland. Moderate water. Tolerates sandy soils and clay soils. Hardy to 20º F.
