Muhlenbergia rigens - Deergrass

Semi-evergreen bunchgrass to 3 ft tall by 4 ft wide, with golden-grey inflorescence rising above the leaves in the spring and summer. Seeds attract song birds. Great en masse as a border planting. Traditionally used to make baskets. Full sun to part shade. Drought tolerant once mature, stays greener with supplemental summer water. Usually found in sandy soils, tolerates clay soils. Prefers fast draining soils. Hardy to 15º F.
