Lyonothamnus floribundus ssp. asplenifolius - Santa Cruz Island Ironwood

Evergreen tree, fast growing to 30+ ft tall by 15 - 20 ft wide. Upright form, with pinnately compound green leaves and clusters of creamy white flowers in spring and summer. Outer layer of grey bark shreds back to reveal cinnamon brown bark beneath. Full sun to part shade. Low water, appreciates occasional deep soakings in summer. Tolerates clay soils, prefers faster drainage. Hardy to 20º F.
