Juglans californica - Black Walnut

Deciduous tree to 30 ft with pinnately compound green leaves, deeply furrowed bark, and small edible walnuts. Good wildlife habitat plant. Highly allelopathic (aka does not play nice with other plants). Full sun to part shade. Often grows near seeps and creeks in the wild, appreciates moderate to regular water in the garden. Tolerates many soil types. Hardy to 25° F.
