Eriogonum arborescens - Santa Cruz Island Buckwheat

Evergreen shrub to 3 ft high by 5 ft wide. Narrow silver leaves held upright on red-brown branches. Clusters of pale pink flowers attract butterflies and other pollinators from early spring through late fall; flowers darken to rusty brown as they age. Endemic to the Channel Islands, where they form mini grove on the windswept bluffs, looking for all the world like tiny trees. Full sun. Low water, occasional summer rinse recommended. Tolerates alkaline and clay soils, prefers fast drainage. Hardy to 10º F.
