Cercocarpus traskiae - Catalina Mountain Mahogany

Evergreen shrub to 13-26 ft tall. Serrated oval green leaves with soft, woolly undersides. Extremely rare plant, endemic to Catalina Island. Delicate clusters of light-yellow flowers in spring. Host plant for numerous butterflies and moths including the California Hairstreak and the Elegant Sheepmoth. Great for slope stabilization. Full sun to part shade inland. Prefers fast-draining, rocky soil. Hardy to 35º F.
