Arctostaphylos glauca - Big Berry Manzanita
Evergreen shrub or small tree to 6 - 10 ft. Peeling red bark with pale green leaves. Clusters of pendant white flowers in early spring attracts hummingbirds, bumblebees, and butterflies, followed by edible red berries. Gorgeous specimen plant. Full sun to light shade. Low water. No summer water after the first year. Prefers heavier soils, tolerates sandy soils. Tolerates serpentine and alkaline soils. Hardy to 10º F.
