Amorpha fruticosa - False Indigo

Deciduous shrub to 10 ft tall by 12 ft wide, or smaller. Beautiful light green, elliptical leaves with brilliant spikes of purple flowers spring into summer. Great wildlife plant; host plant for the Southern Dogface butterfly. Superb selection for erosion control on shady or sheltered slopes. Part sun. Moderate water, will accept summer water. Tolerates many soil types, including clay. Hardy to 25º F
