Agave deserti - Desert Agave

Evergreen rosette of spiny grey leaves to 2 ft tall. Branches at the base to form small colonies. Mother plant is monocarpic, sending up a 12 - 15 ft tall inflorescence with loads of yellow flowers before dying back and letting the pups take over. Traditional food source for the Cahuilla. Full sun. Low water, best with monthly water in summer. Prefers fast draining soils. Tolerates alkaline soils. Hardy to 15º F.
