Aesculus californica - California Buckeye

Deciduous shrub or small tree to 15 - 20 ft tall by 15 - 30 ft wide. Flat-topped crown features palmate deep green leaves. Large, 6”-12” clusters of fragrant cream flowers emerge in late spring. Nut-like fruit appears in late summer; fruit considered toxic. Full sun to part shade. Low water. Tolerates a wide variety of soils, including clay and serpentine soils. Hardy to 0º F.
