Evergreen shrub to 6 ft, or smaller. Attractive open form. Small, shiny green leaves with dazzling red berries in summer that attract song birds. Makes a nice hedge. Host plant of the Hermes copper butterfly. Full sun along the coast to part shade inland. Low water, tolerates garden water. Tolerates a wide variety of soils, including clay and sand. Hardy to 30º F
